Algiers taco love
Following a tip from a local and the well-crafted advice of SECRET NEW ORLEANS – AN UNUSUAL GUIDE, we hopped the ferry to Algiers Point across from New Orleans ($2) and began wandering the historic streets of the old neighborhood, built on a human scale and welcomed by all we encountered. An excellent respite was had at Barracuda Taco Stand at 446 Pelican Ave, where crispy fish and spicy pork tacos made for an excellent bite! And, thanks to the Walking Tours – Algiers Historical Society, we learned that this was the longest operated Gulf gas station in the south until it closed in 1990. Gotta say, the latest iteration sure feels like the highest and best use! Yum! (Jen)
