Can art capture the moment and still be timeless?
“Bridge to Better Days” was written pre-COVID, pre-Trump by a young bluesman, Joe Bonamassa in 2006. Its title could have inspired artist D.C. Lamphere to create the Arc of Dreams across the Big Sioux river in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Though rather than music, it was instead a blade of grass, bending in the wind to form nature’s arc.
The Arc of Dreams almost spans the river, but falls one small segment short of completion. That segment, a gap of infinite possibility, represents the “leap of faith” needed for human magic to happen. One can envision lots of drama between these two points – spiders weaving a connecting web, an electric spark, two hands reaching to grasp one another. What could lie between connection? A misunderstanding? A border? A complicated history?
It is fun to conjecture about “possibilities” if the Arc were completed and made it to the east side of the river. But knowing that the Queen City Bakery is there, the Bacon & Egg Cornbread is no conjecture! And wow, is it good. (Andy)
